October 9, 2016
Jeremiah 3:15 – “Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.”
Psalm 78:72 – “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
Honor his CALLING
Hebrews 13:17b – “. . . They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. . .”
James 3:1 – “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”
I Peter 5:2-4 – “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”
Recalibrate Your EXPECTATIONS
I Samuel 16:7b – “. . . The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”
2 Corinthians 5:16 - “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.”
Psalm 147:10&11 – “His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.”
I Corinthians 2:1-5 – “When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”
FOLLOW Him
Hebrews 13:17 – “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”
PROTECT Him
I Timothy 5:19&20 – “Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses. Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.”
Hebrews 3:12&13 - “See to it brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
PROVIDE for Him
I Timothy 5:17&18 – “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those who work is preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, ‘Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain’, and ‘The worker deserves his wages.’”
PRAY for Him
Hebrews 13:18 – “Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorable in every way.”
Colossians 4:3&4 – “And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”
Ephesians 6:19&20 – “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
